Congressman Paul Hodes Urges House Leadership to End Price Fixing by Health Insurance Companies

October 14, 2009

Washington, DC--- Congressman Paul Hodes today urged House leadership to include a provision in the health insurance reform plan that would help end price fixing and bid rigging by big health insurance companies. Congressman Hodes supports allowing states to regulate insurance companies but believes that health insurance companies should not be exempt from anti trust laws that allow them to drive up costs on middle class families.

"The health insurance industry should not receive any special treatment as millions of Americans are unable to afford health insurance," Congressman Paul Hodes said. "I strongly support repealing this loop hole that permits insurance companies to take advantage of working families. We can’t let a loophole allow insurance companies to continue to raise prices through collusion and price fixing."

Congressman Hodes is supportive of Chairman Conyers' legislation, HR 3596, that would end price fixing by insurance companies while still giving states the ability to regulate insurance companies.
