Oversight and Government Reform Committee

Congressman Hodes believes sunlight is the best disinfectant, and is committed to restoring accountability and transparency to government. On the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, he has questioned L. Paul Bremer about the chronic mismanagement of the war in Iraq, Sgt. Kiley about the neglect and malfeasance at Walter Reed Army Hospital, and the former White House Security Chief about the leak of Valerie Plame's covert identity..

The Congressman is currently working on ethics reform to break the link between lobbyists and legislation.

Financial Services Committee

The Financial Services Committee has jurisdiction over all aspects of the financial services industry, including banking, insurance, real estate, public and assisted housing, and securities. The Committee has oversight jurisdiction over the Federal Reserve, the Treasury, the Securities and Exchange Commission and other financial regulators, over the Government Sponsored Entities, over U.S. involvement in the international monetary institutions (the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund) and over the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The Committee's legislative and oversight authority extends to housing and consumer protection laws as well as financial privacy laws.

Chairman Barney Frank (D-MA) asked Congressman Hodes and other Members of the Committee to sit on the Energy Efficient Task Force to examine all the different ways to turn the Financial Services Industry green.
